Robert Joseph Bare Sr. (born April 7, 1935) is an American country singer and songwriter, best known for the songs "Marie Laveau", "Detroit City" and "500 Miles Away from Home". He is the father of Bobby Bare Jr., also a musician.
Although Bare is a songwriter of excellence as well as a singer and performer;He had a lasting association weith Shel Silverstein.
Bobby made many albums of Silverstein's songs;Including one of Johnny Cash's big hits "A Boy Named Sue" Silverstein wrote many children's songs and books.
It is a rare artist to have sugh great success in both these genras.
This album released by Columbia Records (FC 38670) in 1983 ,is a Stereo Vinyl LP of 11 songs ,almost all, written by Silverstein and about the downside and those who live hard lifes.
